This is the first 'Dopey' painted by Crew Chief Sgt Amos Nicholson. In April 1943 this airplane was destroyed in the service group area by enemy agents? enemy Paratroops? American G.I.s? who dowsed the aircraft in fuel and then accidentally set it on fire, depending of which source you want to believe.

This is the second 'Dopey' painted by Crew Chief Sgt Amos Nicholson. It was badly shot up coming away from its target at Catania, Sicily 9 Jun 43 and crash-landed at Malta. She never flew again. Pilot Clarence Gooden flew DOPEY 42-40268 on each of its twelve missions.
