At the end of January 2023, the German government announced that it would provide Ukraine with 14 Leopard 2A6 main battle tanks from Bundeswehr stocks.
One of these tanks was recovered from the battlefield by Russian troops in 2024, completely burnt out.
In order to be able to exhibit this tank as a trophy at a propaganda exhibition looking reasonably intact again, the tank had to be equipped with wheels from the Russian T-80 main battle tank.
