One of the most massive and famous aircraft in the history of world aviation was the U-2, designed by N.N. Polikarpov. It was designed as an initial training aircraft. The first flight took place in June 1927. At the beginning of the 1930s, the U-2 became a real "air desk" for thousands of Soviet pilots.
During the Second World War, the U-2 received weapons. These aircraft, designated U-2VS, were used with great success as light night bombers (including those with female crews).
In 1944, after the death of N.N. Polikarpov, the plane was renamed Po-2.
