All variants of the Fw 190 were fast, maneuverable and heavily armed; but with Hans Dortenmann at the controls the A-8 and D-9 were true terrors. Hans had survived the early period of the war but had achieved no great acclaim or success until his first aerial victory in 1944. After that victory Hans successes stacked up at a prodigious rate, resulting in a total of 38 victories in the last year and a half of the war.
