USS Langley (CV-1/AV-3) was the United States Navy's first aircraft carrier, converted in 1920 from the collier USS Jupiter, and was also the US Navy's first turbo-electric-powered ship.
In 1936, Langley was converted to become seaplane tender, AV-3. On February 27, 1942 while transporting aircraft to the island of Java, Langley was sunk by Japanese Navy land attack aircraft.
