In the early thirties the JU52 was developed as one of the first efficient cargo and passenger planes. The 3-engine prototype first saw action in 1932 and was so sturdy, that until 1945 almost 5000 units were built. The JU 52 became standard aircraft of the German Lufthansa and many other airlines. In the eighties it was still in service in tropical countries as a cargo plane.
