With a total of 6 built the Danton was the first in her class. Danton was launched on June 4, 1909 in Brest Arsenal and entered service on June 1, 1911 where she was incorporated into the Mediterranean Squadron.
German U-64 sank the Danton on March 19, 1917 in the waters of Sardinia. The wreckage was found in 2009 by a Netherlands geological engineering company but the wreckage is to deep for salvage.
