In production over thirty years, longer than any other armored vehicle, the M113 and its many sub-types serve in the armies of more than 50 countries! As this is written, over 40,000 M113's or variants have been built and delivered by FMC or its licensees! Constructed mostly of welded aluminum alloy the M113A2 is powered by a Detroit Diesel 212hp engine capable of propelling the M113 on land at 42 mph or in the water at 3.6mph.

The tracks are the only propulsion method employed when the M113 is in water. Armed with a basic 50 caliber Browning machine gun plus whatever else might be brought on board as a field modification, the M113 can be a heavily armed offensive fighting weapon.

Though noisy and rough riding, no one assigned to an M113 has ever requested transfer back to the foot infantry!
