The IJN heavy cruiser Furutaka took part in the Naval battles surrounding the island of Guadalcanal. Furutaka was on of the ships in Vice Admiral Mikawa force sent to deal with the US Navy and the landings around the island. She saw action at the American defeat at Savo Island. Furutaka was later lost in action during the Battle of Cape Esperance.

The Yankee Modelworks kit of the Furutaka is a very detailed replica of this Japanese Cruiser. The kit comes complete with Resin, White Metal, and Photo-etched parts. This kit is recommended for a more advanced resin model builder who has built a few smaller kits.
