Mustangs were some of the most popular cars Ford produced. Early models raked in sales figures that rivaled the Model A. By the mid-eighties, however, the line was losing ground to stiff competition. The revamped 5.0 model was released in 1987 and quickly became popular because it was cheap and powerful. Those same characteristics made it popular with police departments also and soon Mustangs were both chasers and chased.
