The Sukhoi Su-25 (NATO name: Frogfoot) is a single-seat, twin-engine, armoured assault aircraft, developed in the Soviet Union by the Sukhoi Design Bureau. It was designed to provide battlefield close support. The Su-25 began as the T-8 Project, the first prototype made its maiden flight on 22 February 1975. The basic version of the aircraft was produced at Tbilisi Georgia and was delivered to the 200th OShAE at Sital Chai in Azerbaijan during April of 1981. Between 1978 and 1989, 582 single-seat Su-25s were produced and served in the soviet union. The Su-25K was exported to operators in Iraq-Angola, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, North Korea, Peru and Slovakia, and served in combat operations in the Soviet war in Afghanistan, Iran-Iraq War, and the Gulf War. The Su-25 proved extraordinarily successful in the Afghanistan War, generating a Russian nickname for the aircraft: 'Grach'.
