One of the 'Pyramidiers' she started life as a ugly duckling that nobody wanted to fly, but by the end of her career she finished in a blaze of glory! She was flown by Lt. Royden L. Lebrecht, on the Ploesti Raid (operation 'Tidal Wave' 1 August 1943). In 1942-43 she dropped 360,000 LB's of bombs in Africa, Sicily, Greece, Crete and Romania. 71 Missions, downed six enemy planes and flew the equivalent of four times around the world. When The Squaw finished combat and was sent home on a war effort tour, the Sleepy nose art was removed and replaced with a large Mediterranean (MTO) map of the combat area depicting it's sorties.
