The P-51 Mustang earned its reputation as one of the greatest fighters of the Second World War, perhaps of all time. This single seat fighter plane excelled with its deadly weaponry, high speed and long-range maneuverability. This combination made the Mustang unparalleled as an escort fighter, interceptor and ground attacker.
When African Americans were trained to fly during the World War II Tuskegee Experiment, the tails of the P-51 Cs they flew were painted red, hence the designation 'Red Tails'. It entered production in May 1943, and was used as a fighter escort.
Academy's decal variation release of the P-51 C takes you back to the historically significant time of the Tuskegee Airmen. The 1/72 kit is a bona fide replica, capturing every detail of the original bird. It's loaded with two 4.5" rocket launchers and two 500 lb, and comes with 108 gallon and 75 gallon drop tanks. Fully engraved panel lines and authentic cockpit detail. A quality, high detailed ground vehicle is also included.
