This conceptually highly advanced monoplane had tandem seating of instructor and student in an enclosed cockpit, with retractable undercarriage and clean lines. It became an example of a training aircraft which has not changed very much up to this day. The project arose in the company Arado - Werke in 1935, in 1936 the design work was completed and in autumn flight tests commenced. Series production proceeded beginning in 1939 for the duration of WW2 (~2375 planes) and continued also after the war in liberated Czechoslovakia (under the designation Avia/Letov C - 2). The machines served for advanced training of pilots. They were very positively evaluated for their outstanding flying properties and modern design.
