When Nazi Germany revealed the first BF109 at the 1936 Berlin Olympics it was a symbol of the re-emerging power of the Reich. The aircraft used leading edge wing slats and numerous other never-before-seen techniques to develop the quickest, most maneuverable and toughest fighter around. These fighters were so superior to the Soviet planes that a single Jagdgeschwader (52) racked up 10,000 victory claims while flying the BF109.
