The F/A-18 Super Hornet is the primary combat aircraft of the US Navy aboard its aircraft carrier fleet. To assist these aircraft, a specialized variant based on the F/A-18F two-seat aircraft has recently joined the fleet. The EA-18G Growler is an electronic warfare aircraft that will eventually fully replace the aging EA-6B Prowler. The Growler only entered US Navy operational service in October 2009, with 85 aircraft expected in total. Its Northrop Grumman electronic warfare suite can perform escort and standoff jamming missions, with much of the equipment stowed in the space that normally houses the internal 20mm cannon, or else in special under-wing pods.

Dragon has released a delightful twin-pack of the EA-18G Growler. The plastic kit replicas are accurately built to 1/144 scale, and the form of the aircraft is beautifully preserved. Detail is extremely fine, and the aircraft come with a full complement of weapons and specialist equipment. There are ALQ-99 high- and low-band tactical jamming pods, AN/ALQ-218(V)2 wingtip pods and missiles to add to the models. Cartograf has produced a fine set of colorful markings that will allow modelers to create both a test plane and an operational aircraft from VAQ-141 "Shadowhawks". Electronic Attack Squadron 141 was the second squadron to transition to the Growler, and it is based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. For modelers looking for something special to add to their model aircraft collections, this set containing two complete 1/144 models is the answer!
