The Zimmerit coating, developed by the German chemical company Chemische Werke Zimmer & Co., was applied to German armored vehicles in mid-late WWII, specifically from August 1943 until September 1944. This coating had the function of protecting armored vehicles from infantry HEAT magnetic mines being placed on their surfaces. The idea was to apply a coat of Zimmerit paste on the armor to create a rough, non-magnetic surface that reduced the chances of mines sticking to the vehicle.

The coating was imprinted with textured patterns, often wavy or grid-shaped, using special tools. These patterns were not only highly distinctive, but also increased the effectiveness of the Zimmerit by reducing the contact area of the magnets with the surface of the vehicle.

AMMO presents the first quick-drying acrylic paste to represent Zimmerit coatings on your models. Apply the Zimmerit paste to the model using a spatula, then use one of the many Zimmerit tools available on the market to reproduce the authentic patterns easily and realistically.
  • High-quality acrylic formula in a convenient 20 ml tube.
  • Non-toxic and allows for easy cleanup with water.
  • Ready-to-use, quick-drying, and easy to apply.
  • Can be applied with brushes and spatulas, and textured with special tools.
  • Replicates the texture of real Zimmerit at scale, making it suitable for 1/35, 1/48, 1/16, and even 1/72 models.
  • Realistic color matches original Zimmerit, allowing for authentic chipping effects or factory-state finishes before final paint application.
  • Longer working time than other putties, allowing texture engraving at a comfortable pace. We recommend applying the Zimmerit in sections to ensure precision and control.
  • Remains workable for at least 20 minutes, firms within one hour for chipping and attachment, and fully cures in 24 hours, ensuring the model is ready for painting.
  • Durable yet easy to chip once dry, allowing realistic chipping with a curved blade for an authentic wear pattern. Its adhesiveness is specifically designed to support this effect.
  • Hardness is calibrated for easy sanding and cutting, making it simple to remove excess material from unwanted areas.
  • Can be painted and varnished once dry for a seamless finish.
