The Alpha Jet was developed as an advanced trainer and light combat and tactical support aircraft. It entered military service in 1978. Valued for its manoeuvrability, safety and performance, the Alpha Jet has been in use with the French Air Force for training and instruction since 1979. In 2008 the "One Millionth" flying hour on Alpha Jets was achieved on a French Air Force machine. One aircraft subsequently received the "Alpha" Logo and the "AJeTS" insignia of the Training Squadron.
