The M151A2 TOW Missile Launcher was created to give the infantry heavier firepower. In the 1960's, Hughes Aircraft Company developed the BGM-77A or TOW (Tube launched, Optically tracked, Wire guided) missile system to replace earlier generation weapons. It was designed as a heavy anti-tank weapon to engage targets between 62meters and 3700meters. It doubled the firepower of the M40A2 106mm recoilless rifle. The TOW system on the M151A2 consisted of the launcher and M220 Optical Tracking System mounted on a fixed pedestal and a control box secured to the floor of the vehicle. Two spare missiles and a tripod mount were also carried to allow the launcher and tracking system to be deployed some distance from the vehicle.
This highly detailed Academy model of the M151A2 TOW Missile Launcher can be assembled with the launcher mounted or with a tripod loaded on the vehicle. A driver is included in this faithfully recreated model kit. The engine compartment and underbody are also magnificently reproduced. A finely engraved decal set and real rubber tires complete this extremely accurate miniature.
