B-24D-30-CO 42-40082 'Prince Charming' 343BS 98BG Libyan desert 1942 - 1943
Some reports have this aircraft as being shot down whilst returning from the target area on the 1st August 1943 from the 'low level Ploesti mission', but this is not the case. 'Prince Charming' turned back early over Corfu and did not even reach the target area. The aircraft was shot down over Bulgaria by a ME-109, while helping defend 'The WITCH' (41-11840), crash landing with only the tail gunner surviving.
B-24D 41-11921 'Doc/Northern Star' 343BS 98BG Libyan desert 1942 - 1943
Originally carried the name Northern Star on both sides of the nose. Spring 1943, the name DOC replaced the port side to comply with a "Snow White Squadron" directive.
The ship was operational until 30 Nov 1943.
