Lead ship of a new class of Battleships, the Nevada introduced the concept of "All or Nothing" armor in battleships. Since only the thickest armor would stop the 14" and larger shells of battleships, it was theorized that thinner armor was a waste of weight. So, if the area of the ship couldn't be covered by the thickest armor possible, then no armor was provided. The Nevada was moored on Battleship row during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and was remembered as being the onlyl battleship to cut her lines and get underway that morning. Unfortunately, this concentrated the efforts of the Japanese airmen and after receiving repeated hits, she was directed by the harbormaster to beach herself at the entrance to the harbor channel, or risk sinking in the channel and blocking the harbor. Our model depicts the Nevada on the fateful day in 1941, and comes complete with resin, metal and plastic detail parts and comprehensive photoetch set.
Features finely cast resin waterline hull, superstructure and main weapons, includes plastic parts (light weapons and boats) extensive photo-etch parts (railings, funnel cap, aircraft cranes, stairs, ladders, catapults and aircraft details, brackets and platforms, yardarms, and much more) white metal parts (Kingfisher floatplanes, 3" AA guns, gun directors, boat cranes and searchlights). Also includes decal sheet with hull numbers, signal flags, jacks and ensigns. Completed model is approximately 9.9" long.
