At the start of the Second World War, the Australian Army found itself in an awkward position. They were stuck between calls for help from England and the imminent threat of Japanese expansion. Their army was undermanned, under-equipped and under-trained. Additionally, no soldiers could be sent overseas unless they volunteered. Despite these problems, thousands of Australian Army soldiers participated in campaigns in Europe, North Africa, China and the Pacific Theater. This set of 49 soldiers commemorates the great contributions that Australia made to the Allied victory in WWII.
